Who We Are

Cindy Mathis MS CRC LPC

Founder/Owner Persevering Through Life Consulting, LLC

Welcome to Persevering Through Life Consulting, LLC and thank you for considering us for your needs! Persevering Through Life Consulting was created to help individuals struggling in life find a way to move forward and live a successful and enjoyable life.  The world is changing at a pace quicker than at any other time. While it has brought monetary upliftment for some, it has additionally left a great deal of us, especially the young people somewhat confounded. It is very normal for the youthful personalities to be befuddled about which vocations/courses to seek after, for what reason to seek after these and from where to seek after these. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of GA, a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Highland Certified Consultant.  I have worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Career Specialist and Mental Health Therapist. I have noticed a need for career exploration, job readiness training and etc. in the youth population and the underserved population while working in high schools and communities.

The development of self-advocacy skills should be started at an early age. These skills will be needed in education, workplace and community settings. Specifically, they include an individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert his/her own interests and/or desires.

Job readiness skills are a set of skills and behaviors that are necessary for any job, such as how to interact with supervisors and co-workers and the importance of timeliness. These skills are sometimes called soft skills, employability skills, or job preparation skills.

It may also include advising students and family members on academic curricula, college application and admissions processes, completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and etc.

The Highland Ability Battery (HAB) Assessment

Everyone is born with inherent abilities that make certain types of tasks preferable to others. The Highlands Ability Battery (HAB) is an objective way to assess what those abilities are in a virtual, online format. The Highlands Ability Battery (HAB) is a human assessment tool that objectively measures your natural abilities by asking you to perform specific tasks or exercises. As part of the Highlands Whole Person Model, the HAB is the foundation and starting point to identify the career best suited for you.

The HAB consists of 19 virtual work samples that are taken online over an estimated three hours in total. You do not have to take the whole Battery at once, but can do each work sample individually or break them up into smaller groups.

The HAB measures basic human abilities such as:

  • ability to work with numbers and designs
  • inductive reasoning;
  • analytical reasoning;
  • idea flow;
  • verbal aptitude;
  • structural visualization;
  • musical aptitude
  • and several applications of memory.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           To thoroughly understand and absorb the knowledge gained from the results of the assessment and highly detailed reports, you will meet for about 2 hours with a career professional. Your debrief (or feedback) is conducted by a Highlands Certified Consultant who has completed an extensive training program to interpret your HAB results, guide you through your reports, and help identify potential careers, school environments, and work roles that would be a good fit given your natural abilities. He or she will also help you understand how you can best integrate those abilities into your daily life. This in-depth and personalized review sets the HAB apart from all other assessments.

HAB for Students

High School, College and Graduate students are empowered to pursue a field of study and career that is driven by their natural talents rather than a passing interest.

Imagine If…

  • You could work with a consultant to identify what comes easiest to you?
  • You could discover the type of learning environment where you will thrive?
  • You could feel confident in communicating what your strengths are?
  • You could learn strategies to improve your performance at school?

HAB for Adults

 The Highland Ability Battery (HAB) is a very effective assessment for exploring new careers, but it is also an incredible tool that assists in decision making at any point and for any reason in your career. Your HAB results can easily be applied should you find yourself in any one of the following situations throughout your lifetime:

  • You’re restless and feel stifled in your position and frustrated by your work.
  • You’re often distracted with thoughts of taking your career to new heights.
  • You wish you could get up every morning and look forward to going to work.
  • Day in and day out, there is nothing that excites you in all that you do.
